Tee it up at the private 18-hole, par 72 championship Chileno Bay Club Golf Course, conceived by world-renowned course designer Tom Fazio, and open only to course members and guests of Chileno Bay Resort & Residences. Nearly 7,300 yards of play take advantage of the surrounding desert terrain, dotted with saguaro cactuses and native grasses, to offer stunning ocean views from every hole. The versatile 7,210 -yard, per 72 layout has a handful of holes on the beach, notably the par 3 third, which parallels the sea and will give players fine views of breaching whales during the winter months. There's also a signature island green at the par 3 17th hole.
One of the defining characteristics of the links-style course is its revetted pot bunkers. These sharp-edged, sleep-walled sandy pits are the product of a British company that uses recycled materials to construct golf bunkers. Built from reprocessed artificial turf, the fairway and green side bunkers at Rancho San Lucas are nearly identical to the natural sod-walled bunkers found on British seaside links course. They lend Norman's first 18-hole course in Los Cabos a distinctive look.
A naturalistic layout perched high above the Sea of Cortes, Twin Dolphin, walled in by tall mountains, features sweeping ocean views from every hole. The layout, built by Hall of Fame Fred Couples and Todd Eckenrode of Origins Golf Design, weaves around three major arroyos and makes excellent use of the terrain's natural contours and rock outcrops. Sharp elevation changes, open-entry greens, broad rolling fairways and natural bunkering characterize the design. Twin Dolphin is a private club and exclusive access available to guests of Montage Residences.
According to author Paul Daley in Golf Architecture: A Worldwide Perspective (Volume 7), "rumpled fairways, natural-styled bunkering and short-cut fairway heights throughout, significantly add to the appeal of this new, world-class par-72 layout".
Diamante’s Dunes Course, ranked #36 in the world by GOLF Magazine in 2019, weaves its way through spectacular Pacific dunes and boasts amazing views of beach and ocean from nearly every hole. Add to that an awe-inspiring 14-acre practice facility, clubhouse restaurants and bars, retail center, on-course comfort stations every three holes, and Diamante’s signature service, and you’ve got an unforgettable golf experience. When Dunes Course designer Davis Love III first arrived on the Diamante site, he said, “It was like pulling up to St. Andrews.” Golf on the Dunes does share some similarities with the classic links courses in Scotland and Ireland–but here, the weather is warmer, the sand is whiter, and the sea is bluer.
The Tiger Woods designed El Cardonal course is Diamante’s second championship course and Tiger’s first-ever golf course design. Influenced by the old-style courses of Southern California that he grew up playing, Tiger created a course that brings back the need for strategy in golf–with several options to navigate each hole. The result is a course that challenges expert players but provides options for those with higher handicaps as well. With Diamante’s signature on-course comfort stations and dramatic long-range views of the Pacific Ocean, natural arroyos, and native dunes, El Cardonal is a golf experience not-to-be-missed.
