5 Reasons Why Golfers Love Living in Baja California Sur

Baja California Sur is one of Mexico's most beautiful, affluent, and luxurious areas. Although real estate here is highly sought after, Baja California Sur is the least populated location in Mexico. For those few fortunate Baja California Sur real estate owners who have secured a coveted piece of this paradise, there are endless benefits.

Baja California Sur is a prime destination for surfing, windsurfing, deep sea fishing, snorkeling, and scuba diving, not to mention lounging on the beach. However, one of the area’s most cherished pastimes is golfing, a skill-intensive sport and a hallmark of luxury living. Baja California Sur’s golfing resorts are some of the best in North America, and here are a few reasons why.

Stunning panoramic views

Baja California Sur, which translates to “Lower Southern California,” comprises the southernmost half of the long peninsula that stretches from Mexico’s northwest corner. As the name implies, it extends from the bottom of California into the Pacific waters below. This long, narrow stretch of land consists largely of endless miles of waterfront graced by the warm, sunny Mexican climate.

A beach is always accessible for vacationers staying in a resort. Baja California Sur is renowned for its many beachfront resorts, especially in Los Cabos at the southernmost tip of the island. The Pacific Ocean borders Baja California Sur to the west, while the Gulf of California borders it to the east.

Many of these lavish resorts are concentrated in the south of the peninsula in Cabo San Lucas (commonly referred to as “Cabo”) and San José del Cabo. These two resort-packed cities are together known as “Los Cabos.” Golfers and beachgoers around the world love Los Cabos real estate.

Although Los Cabos is packed with amenities and is highly regarded by tourists, the entire metropolitan area has a population well under half a million. The entire state of Baja California Sur has under a million residents, making it a relaxing place to live.

Abundant golfing locations

Golf lovers will have no shortage of activities while visiting Baja California Sur. The state includes several world-renowned golf courses designed by famous golf architects as well as numerous greens, clubs, and large resorts dedicated to the enjoyment of the sport. The GolfPass page for Baja California Sur lists over two dozen regional golf clubs.

Some are located within verdant valleys under the shadow of nearby mountains, while others are next to pristine stretches of oceanfront, where many of the area’s resorts are found. Baja California Sur visitors can stay nearby by golfing at a resort or venturing into one of the numerous other clubs in the area. One of the largest perks of staying at a resort is that you can easily walk over to a beautiful beach when the game is over.

Numerous extravagant resorts

Beautiful and lush as they are, the many golf clubs of Baja California Sur pale in comparison to the towering resorts gracing the peninsula, where you can both play a round of golf and live in the lap of luxury in one of their real estate communities.

These resorts pack innumerable amenities all in one location, where you can rent a room for a much-needed vacation, spend tee time on their courses, and purchase real estate to really extend your stay! At Chileno Bay Resort & Residences, enjoy the tranquil waters of the Sea of Cortez, go horseback riding through the deep desert canyons, splash around in the three-tier infinity pool, and savor the setting sun from your private terrace while your little (and not-so-little-anymore!) ones enjoy Cabo-style fun at the kids’ and teens’ clubs. Of course, you must golf the members-only, Tom Fazio-designed championship course, which has majestic sea views from every hole.

Located along the azure waters of Santa Maria Bay, Montage Los Cabos is home to some of the finest swimming, snorkeling, and diving locations in Baja California Sur as well as 52 hacienda-style Montage residences replete with expansive indoor and outdoor living spaces, private pools, and unparalleled views of the water. Hit the greens at Twins Dolphin Club, an amazing 19-hole golf course designed by Fred Couples.

Other incredible resorts and golf communities include Cabo Del Sol, which is home to luxuriously-built residences at Cove Club and the world-famous Jack Nicklaus-designed Cove Club Course, which is considered one of the top 100 courses in the world, and Tom Weiskopf’s Desert Course, as well as Diamante, which includes an absolute bevy of real estate properties such as golf villas, estates, and penthouse suites, golf communities, and world-class golf at the Davis Love III’s Dunes Course and the Tiger Woods-designed El Cardonal Course and so much more.

Accessible transportation options

Baja California Sur’s resorts may be at the bottom of a narrow peninsula with a small population, but this island thrives off tourism. As such, there are four international airports on the peninsula and numerous ports. Mexican Federal Highway 1 runs from the bottom of Baja California Sur in Cabo San Lucas all the way to the U.S. border at San Ysidro.

Visitors can easily book reservations at Baja California Sur’s stunning resorts, many of which offer transportation services to help guests get around. Since there’s an abundance of resorts to choose from with beach access, golfing, dining, and entertainment right on the premises, many guests have little reason to travel any further once they arrive at their resort.

Incredible housing opportunities

Baja California Sur is a great place to visit and an even better place to own a vacation home or other property. Though this market may be competitive, future homeowners still have plenty of opportunities to own Los Cabos real estate. This area makes a great retirement destination for the truly adventurous, although it’s equally worthy as a vacation spot or second home.

Baja California Sur real estate owners have ample access to the peninsula’s golf courses, and owning a piece of Los Cabos real estate also means you can check out some of the area’s finest resorts. This area is easily accessible and loaded with fun activities. Whether you want to spend a day relaxing by the beach or take a swing on a lush, green course, Baja California Sur has it all.
