A Guide to the Best Beaches in Cabos San Lucas

Cabo San Lucas is a paradise and resort city located on the southern tip of Mexico’s stunningly beautiful Baja California peninsula. Renowned for its beaches, sprawling golf courses, and deluxe villas, Cabo San Lucas is nothing short of spectacular.

Whether you’re looking for exclusive adventures on remote beaches or want to savor the best of Cabo San Lucas through the lens of a local, the phenomenal beaches and locales of this resort community offer an abundance of exceptional opportunities to explore, discover, and enjoy life to the fullest.

Medano Beach (Playa el Médano)

A safe and popular swimming beach in Cabo San Lucas, Playa el Médano or Medano Beach, extends several miles beginning at the east side of the harbor entrance through to Villa del Palmar on the east end of the bay. Located near town, Medano Beach is known as Cabo San Lucas’ main beach.

Enjoy exploring downtown Cabo San Lucas located just minutes away from the beach. As you stroll the picturesque sidewalks, you’ll encounter artisans and vendors offering a variety of goods that remind you of the region's rich culture.

At Medano Beach, you’ll find world-class hotels, bars, and restaurants that offer the very best of Mexico and are touted as one of the region's top tourist destinations. While here, you can enjoy any of the exceptional activities offered, including swimming, jet skiing, kayaking, waterskiing, banana boating, parasailing, and volleyball, among many more.

Lover’s Beach (Playa del Amor)

Small and secluded, Lover’s Beach is a sublime swimmable beach tucked between two stunning and prominent jagged rock formations. Among one of the most highly sought-after attractions, this popular beach in Cabo San Lucas offers visitors a variety of phenomenal things to do.

Reaching the exclusive and private spot requires a short water taxi ride from Medano Beach, located just across the bay. Many also choose to navigate the serene, turquoise waters on their own aboard a paddleboard or kayak.

Enjoy the sites of the ocean on a trip in any of the glass-bottom boats offered through the marina and discover the beauty of the marine life that inhabits the stunningly beautiful ocean. Or begin your exploration of the underwater sand falls of Neptune’s Finger, a world-renowned destination for divers looking to experience magical underwater adventures.

Chileno Beach (Playa Chileno)

Nestled along the Tourist Corridor found between Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo, Chileno Bay is ranked as one of the cleanest in Mexico. Chileno Beach is a favorite among locals who enjoy privacy and seclusion amid its soft sands and stunningly clear water.

The easily accessible beach is well marked from the main highway, and you’ll likely find the beach largely uncrowded on any given day. The bucolic spot offers a prime spot to enjoy whale watching during whale season, or it’s not uncommon to hear the distant songs of the humpback whale strolling down the sands.

Santa Maria Beach (Playa Santa Maria)

This serene horseshoe-shaped beach features pink sands and breathtaking views of the crystalline azure waters of Bahia Santa Maria (Santa Maria Bay). The protected marine sanctuary is home to stunningly beautiful marine creatures of all colors and is an ideal spot for snorkeling.

Visitors can enjoy the marine preserve aboard any of the charter boats that offer snorkeling and scuba diving excursions departing from the Cabo San Lucas harbor. You’ll be mesmerized by the abundant colorful tropical fish you’re likely to encounter, and many locals share the best time for optimum underwater visibility is morning in Playa Santa Maria. Truly a spectacular place in Los Cabos, you won’t want to miss visiting this beautiful Cabo San Lucas locale.

Palmilla Beach (Playa Palmilla)

This stunningly beautiful Blue Flag beach is a gateway to a peaceful experience and offers the perfect backdrop to relax and read a book, stroll the soft sand shores, or contemplate the calming waves. A popular tourist destination, Palmilla Beach is an open space dotted by open palapas.

Located along a quiet stretch of shoreline between the Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo beaches, Palmilla Beach is further away from the city’s center and provides a measure of privacy many locals and visitors enjoy.

Touted as one of the best swimmable beaches in Cabo, it’s also home to the annual Ironman Triathlon, which begins and finishes at Palmilla Beach. Visitors enjoy the clear blue waters for a variety of activities, from swimming and snorkeling to paddle boarding and kayaking.

Cannery Beaches (Playa Coral Negro and Playa Balconcito)

Located just outside the marina before Land’s End are the beautiful beaches of Coral Negro and Balconcito. Surrounded by giant boulders where you can sit and gather or shade yourself from the sand, visitors to these beaches enjoy swimming and snorkeling, among other fun water activities.

A beautiful spot to enjoy an unspoiled stretch of sand, visitors enjoy stunning views of the surrounding cliffs. Shade straw umbrellas are found dotted throughout the beach, offering a perfect backdrop to enjoy the bobbing boats on the nearby docks. The colorful wall mural painted with fish and boats is a fun backdrop to capture selfies on the beach, and the clear warm water invites you to splash, play and experience endless adventures.

Cabo Pulmo Beach

Known as one of the jewels of the East Cape, Cabo Pulmo is approximately a two hours drive from San Jose del Cabo. The protected National Marine Park is recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and is touted as one of the most impressive achievements in ocean conservation and the only hard coral reef in the Gulf of California.

Rich with history, the reef of Cabo Pulmo is estimated to be 20,000 years old and is home to over 800 species of marine life, and is aptly nicknamed “The Aquarium of the World”. An eco-tourist destination, Cabo Pulmo offers visitors a chance to enjoy the best of Los Cabos nature.

Scuba diving and snorkeling beckon divers to explore this immensely popular area and offers a first-hand, up-close look at the amazing underwater ecosystem. Five of the world’s seven endangered species of sea turtles find refuge in Cabo Pulmo, which gives adventurers an excuse to experience underwater exploration.
